Warpaints or Speedpaint?
Warpaints are conventional acrylics — you build the color up in layers and control every step. Speedpaint is a one-coat contrast system: over a white or light primer, a single pass lays down the shading and the highlight together. Most painters end up with both — Speedpaint for the rank and file, Warpaints for the models that get the attention.
Starting from nothing
A primer, four or five Warpaints covering your scheme, one dark wash and a decent size 1 brush will paint a whole squad. Add a wet palette early rather than late — it stops acrylics skinning over mid-session and pays for itself within a couple of pots.
Tools worth having
The Precision Side Cutter and the Plastic Frame Cutter leave a cleaner sprue gate than a hobby knife, which means less filing afterwards. Green Stuff fills the seams that show up on larger kits, and a matt varnish takes the shine off a finished model before it goes on the shelf.
Matching a color in person
Everything on this page ships nationwide. Both shops also carry the range on the shelf, so if you need to hold a pot up against a model you have already started, bring it in. Our Stevenson, Maryland store is minutes from Pikesville and Owings Mills, and our Lemoyne, Pennsylvania store is just across the river from Harrisburg.
